Brief - Privacy Policy

Overview

Brief is a simple app that helps you save web articles to your email. We respect your privacy and collect only what's necessary to provide the service.

Information We Collect

When you use Brief, we collect:

Email address: The email address you provide to receive saved articles
URLs and titles: The web pages you choose to share through the app
Optional notes: Any personal context you add when saving an article

How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to:

Send saved articles to your email address
Generate AI summaries when you enable this optional feature

Third-Party AI Service & Data Sharing

Brief uses Google Gemini, a third-party AI service operated by Google LLC, to generate optional article summaries. This feature is disabled by default and requires your explicit consent before any data is shared.

What Data is Sent to Google Gemini

When you enable the AI Summary feature, the following data is transmitted to Google Gemini:

Link URL: The web address of the page you are sharing
Page title: The title of the webpage
Text content: The text content of the webpage (up to 10,000 characters)

What Data is NOT Sent

The following personal information is never transmitted to Google Gemini:

Your email address
Your personal notes
Any device identifiers or personal information

How AI Summaries Work

When you enable AI Summary:

Brief fetches the publicly available content from the webpage you're sharing
This content is sent to Google Gemini to generate a bullet-point summary
The summary is included in the email sent to you
No content is permanently stored by Brief after processing

Your Consent and Control

AI Summary is an optional feature that is disabled by default. When you first attempt to enable AI Summary, you will be shown a consent dialog that clearly explains:

What data will be shared
Who receives the data (Google Gemini)
What data remains private

You must explicitly tap "Enable AI Summary" to consent. You can disable AI summaries at any time in the app settings or when sharing a link.

Google's Data Protection

When content is processed by Google Gemini, it is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Google provides enterprise-grade data protection for API users. Google's practices provide protection of your data that is equivalent to the protection provided by Brief.

Data Storage

Your email address is stored locally on your device only
Your send history is stored locally on your device only
Article data is processed through our API and not permanently stored
We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes

Other Third-Party Services

In addition to Google Gemini (described above), Brief uses the following services:

Cloudflare Workers: Processes API requests securely. No personal data is permanently stored.
Resend: Delivers emails to your inbox. Your email address is transmitted solely for email delivery.

Each of these services maintains their own privacy policies and provides data protection equivalent to or exceeding our standards.

Your Rights

You can:

Delete your email and all local data using "Reset" in Settings
Disable AI summaries at any time
Stop using the service at any time
